World Book Day 2024

What a fantastic World Book Day!
The children (and staff) transformed themselves into a variety of characters to celebrate World Book Day this year. We would like to say a huge thank you to the effort put into the costumes to make this a really special day for the children. Costume winners from each class were chosen by our Year 6 House Captains and will receive a new book to take home. Well done!

Primary Engineering Week!

Well done to everyone who took part in last year's Leaders Award!
For those new to the school, last March each class entered a competition - If you were an engineer ... whereby the children had to interview an engineer and then create and design an invention.
The Leader's Award was partnered with The National Grid and they spent a day with us, filming their promotional video to promote the world of engineering and give the children an understanding of roles within their industry.

Author Alex Bellos' visit

Alex Bellos, author of the FOOTBALL SCHOOL series of books, turned St Thomas More into a real life Football School by visiting KS2 children. Throughout the assembly, children took part in mini lessons with a football twist.

Parents be warned... your child may have preferred Football School to ordinary school!

Football School is a bestselling series that encourages reading and a curiosity about the world through football. The first Football School book was runner up in Blue Peter’s book of the year award!

We are delighted to now have a set of Football School books in our school library for all children to enjoy.

A huge thank you to Alex Bellos for a riveting afternoon of football fun!

World Book Day 2023

World Book Day changes lives through a love of books and shared reading. Our mission is to promote reading for pleasure, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own.

We celebrated World Book Day with a 'Vocabulary Dress-Up' day inspired by the book "The Word Collector" by Peter H. Reynolds. It was fantastic to see the variety of words and costumes! Each class has created their own class dictionary in which children have defined their words and found synonyms and antonyms.

Each teacher has also chosen a book to share! Children have been able to choose which book they would like to enjoy before breaktime each day.

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebration!

The children have had a fantastic week celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. The teachers planned a range of wonderful activities and we are proud to display the amazing work that the children produced below. The children also sang the National Anthem and the Choir performed one of the Queen's favourite songs. Thank you to all the parents that celebrated with us and for donating so many delicious cakes.
It has been a very memorable day!
